April 13-14th Enterprise, Alabama: Home of the Boll Weevil!

We are visiting Betty Jane Hunt, retired missionary from Korea, whose furniture we rented while we lived in the missionary housing there in 1969. We’ll spend Thursday with her – will have to drive all day tomorrow. We’ll stay in a Hotwire hotel there 2 nights.
Enterprise AL is well known for the boll weevil – the insect that ate up the cotton plantations! Imagine having a statue of that in your town! They do! Can you see the large insect at the top of the statue? – in the middle of town! But they honor it, because it made the farmers change from planting one crop to adding others, in particular, the peanut!
We had a wonderful visit catching up on Korea and all the missionaries there. The town was very friendly. Now we are moving on to friends in Mississippi.

April 12th A Day of Rest in Reunion, FL

And did we need it! In order to recoup, we are so glad we planned a day between our 9-hour driving days and visiting our friend in Daytona Beach! He was in good spirits and looking forward to his college class reunion in Virginia this month. We used to drive 29 hours straight to family, visit the week and then drive back all night, arriving just in time for work Monday morning…but…no more! We drove from Atlanta to Daytona to see him, and then would be driving back north to Enterprise, AL. It really helped to stay at the beautiful Wyndham Vacation Resorts Reunion at Orlando resort.
It is in the middle of an upscale gated community. All units are 3 bedroom, 3 bath, sleep 10 with 1500 square feet. It was very quiet and relaxing.

April 8-10th Wyndham Plantation Studio

We moved into Wyndham’s property for 2 days, in a studio here in Villa Rica. We stayed in a studio the first time we were here, so we knew what to expect: beautiful updated décor, and with a Murphy bed. There is also a pull out sofa, but that would sure be crowded! It has a full kitchen with full sized appliances and even a washer and dryer in the bathroom, where there is a whirlpool tub. We’d forgotten about the large balcony but we knew it was lakefront, so that made it really relaxing!
And thick towels again and nice bedding!
We’ll be able to see our friends again at church Sunday before leaving for Florida.

April 9th Lakefront Morning
Just stepped out onto the balcony and relaxed immediately! Birds singing, geese walking, ducks swimming, perfect temperature. Quick! A cup of coffee!

April 1-8 Fairfield Plantation Again!

This is one of our favorite places to go: the Wyndham décor is absolutely gorgeous. Therefore, much was our surprise when we discovered our RCI exchange was in Tara III, a non-Wyndham property. Turns out there are several differently managed condo properties right there, some being fully owned. However, the unit was pretty and comfortable and still lakefront. Here is the view from the balcony.
The biggest problem were the wood bees, those huge bumble-like-looking bees, which continually buzz-bombed us on the balcony. They seldom sting, and we were used to them, having them in Ohio, but they were bothersome. And, we couldn’t figure out where their nests were since the building was generally not wood!

April 6th Plan Change Required!

Our next stop was to drive Friday to Daytona Beach and stay the weekend with our great friend there who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. When we saw him in January, he said he wanted to see us one last time, so we canceled our reservation for 3 days at the Wyndham Plantation in Villa Rica (which we had attached to our week at Tara III) and planned to drive there from Atlanta – a LONG side trip on our way to central Alabama, in order to see him.
He wrote an email today saying his son was coming in this weekend after all (had changed his plans) so could we postpone for a week?
Well, no, we can’t…what to do? Options are stay at a hotel (for a cash $ outlay), find a cheaper Hotwire hotel, or maybe find a Wyndham, even in Villa Rica, although, normally it is very hard to get in there. But…we found 2 studio nights!!! At the Wyndham Plantation here in Villa Rica, so we booked them! We can walk to it from our Tara III unit!
