Fairfield Plantation Again .. Our Favorite Wyndham

   We’ve been here 2 nights, returning to our friends near Atlanta, to leave our van there and then to fly back to Seattle.  After our flight was canceled, we were able to rent another night in the same unit here at the Wyndham Fairfield Plantation in Villa Rica, GA.  There were no Wyndham units available, but the office here rents out units.  We did not have to move then from our unit 510 on the lake, so it made it much nicer than moving to a motel for one night.

    Although it was cold this morning, it warmed up to 65 this afternoon, so we took a long walk along the lake, marina, and across the dam berm.  On the way back, we met a man with a model airplane and he showed us the camera on top which he can follow live with his monitor, said it had GPS and auto landing. 
     We watched him fly it for a while.  Ron recognized it immediately as an Aronca model and the man was so surprised he knew about it (well, after all, he loves planes.)

Travel Advisory: Heavy snow hits Sea-Tac airport

      Our Delta flight for tonight (ATL-SEA) had been changed to Alaska (it said to our “partner” – but they are not partners anymore!)  (And we had seats assigned, which you can’t get on Alaska from Delta, so how did that happen?)  Then, just while Joan was checking in at midnight last night, Alaska suggested everyone change their flights because of the snow in Seattle.. no penalty .. so Joan called Delta to see if we could stay on a Delta plane (as perhaps since Alaska is no longer a partner, we would not get  the free checked baggage after all!)   They were super about changing.

We can only say that we have never seen that kind of snow at Sea-Tac.. at least we haven’t.  We’re not used to much snow AT ALL in Seattle.

Our “STUFF”…Too Much? (YES!)

Some people wonder why we have so much STUFF in our van – a 2000 Ford Excursion -  as it is totally filled to the top.  Of course, it is “left over” material from when we were absolutely FULL-TIME for seven years with no other home base but our van.  Thus we had to have with us: clothing for all weathers; lotions, medications and vitamins; our “official”  and paper work (tax records for Ron’s mother, Joan’s mother, and our own,); family photos; a printer (and office supplies and paper, labels, etc.) to go along with our laptops; some favorite books and DVD’s; a small tub of “decorations”: candles, small knickknacks; and pretty glassware and flatware items to supplement timeshare kitchen inventories. We also carried the paperwork for the military reunion Ron hosts as well as the full-sized flags, when going south, and fishing equipment when going north.

       We decided that we wanted an electric griddle since so many timeshare ranges have crooked burners and scratched frying pans, and then little by little also added other small appliances that we wanted to be able to use.

Now, if you have been following us, you know we have a home base in a small condo in Seattle – to enjoy being nearer the grandchildren there more – and are only going out now for six months per year.  We want to get a smaller vehicle to leave on the East Coast, and also a newer one, so we have to decide how to downsize the van items.  We find that we can stay two months at a time in different places (e.g. Hawaii, Mexico) from just bringing clothes, etc, in a suitcase.  So our task this year is to rework the van contents, to hopefully replace this Excursion with a smaller vehicle next January.
