Around the Blue Heron Resort

There were lots of graveled pathways all around the resort.  The office and recreation building had been newly remodeled and there was a large picnic area by the water.

Blue Heron Resort Is Great!

What a great place.  Yes, it was cool…yes, it was quiet…but that’s what we wanted.  And it was beautiful and right across the street from Hood Canal.
To get there, we decided to take the Southworth/Vashon ferry from West Seattle/Fauntleroy because not only it was a shorter ride than the Bremerton one, we would avoid the Seattle downtown traffic.
Getting on the ferry; choice of Vashon Island or Southworth,
both leave from this dock at different times.
Be sure you get on the right one!

Joan loves Washington State ferries, and here's another one by ours.

It was a great ferry ride and then we found a small café right off the ferry at Southworth and up the hill, Kelly’s, to have lunch and had the BEST coffee that we’ve had for a long time.  Later, we stopped at the Cutter's Point Coffee store.
Yes, the fish and chips were great!

It was rainy driving down the Canal on SR 106  to get to the town of Union and Joan enjoyed taking some “modern art” photos.

It didn't take too long to get there - maybe an hour from the Southworth Ferry Terminal along SR 3and Sr 106.  A friend in Chicago said we were lucky to live so close to beautiful sites; it does seem pretty amazing to be able to leave the bustle of the city and so soon get to the woods.
The resort was nicely landscaped. We only had a peek-a-boo water view from our unit in Building 8; Buildings 1, 2, and 4 had full waterfront views.  There was only an outdoor pool, so we were unable to swim, but we could walk down by the beach and around the residential area streets.  It would really be nice in the summer and the manager said they were very busy then with lots of families.
